An Extrovert Amongst Introverts

Hello Readers,

Before I get into this, I want my introvert friends to know that I realize being an extrovert is very helpful in the way the world is today; I acknowledge that it is harder for our introverted friends out there, the way life is and the way jobs work. It’s not easy being an introvert, or an extrovert, or a human in general.

I spent too long trying to find this gif.

But lately, it’s become common for introverted to be synonymous with “deep”. Which isn’t true and a bit annoying. Not only for extroverts, who get a bad name because talking a lot is apparently “shallow”, but for introverts who now get the added social pressure of always having super deep thoughts. Introverts don’t like social pressure. Just let the introverts chill a bit and let the extroverts not feel bad for talking. As an extrovert myself, it’s a little annoying when people automatically assume you’re peppy and love small talk.

I see a lot of posts about introverts needing their alone time, and I’m very glad that they’re being acknowledged and cared for. I have a lot of introvert friends that these posts have helped me to understand more. I’m glad that people are taking the time to write them. It’s common human decency to look out for each other’s needs. But also, we need to look after our extroverted kids. I’ve seen next to nothing on that in the blogging world, and that’s probably because there’s mostly introverts out here, but as an extrovert myself, I decided to write a post about what the differences and similarities are. We’re all human, we all have the capacity to be deep or shallow, regardless of how we process information. I also had no other ideas of what to write and I needed a blog post, but that’s on the down low.

Sometimes, the introvert is going to have to move out of their shell because the extrovert needs human interaction or the extrovert will not be able to process the event that happened they’ll just straight up die. We need to talk to people. Vice versa, sometimes the extrovert needs to accept that the introvert can’t talk until they’re recharged and wait for their friend or the introvert may drop dead like a bad phone battery.

Sometimes, you’re just going to have to apologize for misunderstanding your extroverted/introverted friend. Be prepared to do so.

Plus, c’mon, extroverts can be just as deep as introverts. We just get our energy from talking to people, while introverts get it from being alone. Internal processing vs. external processing. It’s not a bad thing, either way, and it doesn’t mean that if you’re an introvert that you’re destined to constantly have deep challenging thoughts or if you’re an extrovert you’re going to love small talk with a burning passion. I’m an extrovert and I don’t like small talk all that much.

The introvert feels this, and wishes for the extrovert not to be offended by their need for inward reflection.

Sometimes, the extrovert just wants a chance to talk. The extrovert hopes they are not overloading their introvert friend but they need to process.

It’s really just about how you recharge your energy levels. Extroversion is also not a synonym for “confidence”. I have met incredibly confident introverts and insecure extroverts.

Moral of the story: remember these two definitions; a) introversion means that you get your energy from time alone and b) extroversion means you get your energy from time spent interacting with humans. Nothing else.

Now go out into the world and use your new found knowledge to understand your friends and family better.

  1. Wow! This is such a good post, Ruby!! 😀

Honestly, we introverts can be so dramatic and woe-is-me and you-don’t-understand-me-because-I’m-a-tortured-introvert. *insert eyeroll* And you’re right–extroverts get a bad rap as being loud, chatty, and shallow.

Maybe you should do a “caring for your extroverted friend” post sometime! 🙂

    With love,
    Rosalie

  2. Wow, yessss, totally agreed. I’m an ambivert, social and chatty, but still not liking to be the centre of attention, still shy and introverted at times. But for sure, don’t judge people like that! Who knows what’s going on in their heads???

    1. Interesting! 🙂 I think that you can normally fit into one category, because like, I said, not all extroverts like to be the center of attention and not all introverts are shy. But yes, definitely, we don’t know what’s going on in people’s heads. 🙂 Thank you for your comment!

  3. THIS POST!! Ahh, I apologize again for assuming that all extroverts like small talk! I felt that way because I thought well, since small talk is interacting with people, it must be energizing for extroverts. Which I now know is not always true, thanks!
Yes, I agree: a post about taking care of the extroverted kids would be awesome.
Of course extroverts are as deep as introverts! I wonder when and why that stereotype about introverts came to be.
And finally, I love all the gifs!

    1. I’m so glad you liked it! 😀 No need to apologize, lovely, it’s a common thought (even by extroverts) and is perfectly understandable. 🙂

I’ll have to write it eventually then! 😀

Hmmm, maybe cause a lot of introverts seem to be more serious to people who don’t know them well? (It’s a lie, my introverted friends are insane)

I’m glad you liked the gifs! Thanks so much for your comment 🙂

Yes, we need to look out for our extroverted kids too. THANK YOU FOR SAYING SO. And I love what you said about us needing to be ready to have misunderstandings and apologize sometimes. Like yes. Shall we just acknowledge that we are all human??

Thank you! 😀 I keep seeing these introvert posts and I am so glad that they’re being looked after, but a lot of what I’m seeing is “extroverts are loud and annoying”. We don’t /choose/ to externally process like introverts don’t choose to internally process. It’s a way of coping and thinking, not a choice. Yes, please, let’s all acknowledge being human. Introverts and extroverts both screw up, cause we’re humannnssss. ;D I’m really glad you liked it 🙂

  5. Totally agree with you here, especially as someone who has a 50% introvert, 50% extrovert family…which can be interesting sometimes. I think that the Internet is so introvert focused because it’s popular to be an introvert online (while in real life…not so much). My HS is all ATHLETICS and EXTROVERTS and GROUP PARTICIPATION which is extremely annoying, to say the least. And it makes me bitter and annoyed sometimes, you know? But also as someone who has been obsessed with MBTI and who has had a couple of extrovert frineds in my smol life….I do really really agree that it’s just as stupid to sterotype all extroverts a certain way as it is to do it with introverts…and I’m also kind of jealous of you extroverts sometimes. Like, can we trade brains sometime?? Just for the fun of it??😜

    1. Oh wow, definitely an interesting dynamic there! My family is all extroverts, but like… we’re pretty chill. We actually enjoy hanging out at home a lot, but there’s seven of us so we get human interaction. ;D

Oh yea, definitely. The internet is primarily dominated by the introverts, and I’m glad they have a domain, but sometimes it’s a little intimidating to be an extrovert and continue to see bitterness towards our external processing. Cause like, we really aren’t trying to be annoying. XD And yes, stereotyping personalities in general is annoying and to be avoided at all costs.

Yes, lets! I’ll go get my Braininator. ;D

      1. Yeah, I get your POV. I do now, anyway…because I honestly never thought of this before??? It was always just yAY iNTERNET is fOR iNTROVERTS…and your post hasss opened my eyesss precioussss (so thank you 🙂 ). I think part of the problem is that the majority of extroverts that I *know* are flat out stereotypical, as in they actually LIKE small talk and talking about books or “deep things” makes them uncomfortable. But this is probably less an introvert/extrovert problem and more of a Shallow Idiot problem. Because shallow idiots do exist–it is SAD FACT OF LIFE. But no, of course you’re not trying to be annoying, and I think introvert/extrovert friendships can actually balance each other out nicely, especially since introverts act like crazy people around the glorious inner circle of their friends.

  6. I agree with this so much! Even though I’m an introvert who appreciates the wealth of content on being kind to introverts, I’ve been disappointed in the lack of sympathy toward extroverts. Some of my extroverted friends are very deep people, and they actually get me to come out of my shell and talk about those deep things. You make fantastic deep-thought buddies if we just give you a chance!

    1. I’m so glad! 🙂 I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the introvert response to this post! I definitely think that all the content out there on how to care for your introverted loved one is fantastic, I’m just not a fan of the ones that bash extroverts as “loudmouthed and annoying”, and from what I’m seeing in the comments to this post, not a lot of introverts like it either. Extroverts are definitely fantastic thought buddies, and we love that introverts listen to us. 🙂 Thanks so much for the comment! 🙂

  7. IMPORTANT. This is SO important. I fall sorta in the middle, more introvert than extrovert, but I still love to talk. Extroverts can also be shy. People don’t think so, but introverts aren’t always the shy ones. I’m the person who goes to talk to all the peoples when I have to socialize, and so people think I can’t be an introvert. ALso This comment as a whole is not cohesive and it drives me nuts that I can’t make cohesive comments with a common theme. (I am doing too much English ’cause I wanted to write thesis not theme)

  8. Ahem…..
    *gets up out of chair*
    *walks across room*
    *hugs you*
Bless you, Ruby. Bless you. Bless your family. Bless your cow. (I’ve never seen Milan DID I DO THIS RIGHT???? XD )

Just, THANK YOU FOR THIS. It’s a little difficult for me to accept my extrovertedness, because I’m pretty sure that I am LITERALLY the only extrovert in my family, and also because it’s like the ‘cool’ thing now to be introverted. Which I mean hey! That’s perfectly fine! But I don’t want to feel weird just because I happen to get about as excited and hyperactive as a Labrador puppy when I talk to people. (It’s kind of a problem, tbh… XD ) So I completely, 100% agree with this post! Extroverts and introverts just need to learn to understand each other better and possibly realize that a human being is made up of so much more than whether they’re extroverted or introverted.

So yeah. That’s my ramblings for the day! XD Basically, in a nutshell, I just really, REALLY love this post. Us extroverts deserve some blog posts too!! *hugs post nicely*

(Also, do you think I could to write a post on extroversion and introversion, as well? It probably won’t be for a while, but this post has definitely sparked some interesting thoughts for me on the whole extroverted/introverted thing!)

You as well! ^-^ (And yes, you did do it right!)

Yes, yes, yes, definitely. Being extroverted or introverted doesn’t really define you as a human being, it’s just how you process things that happen. And oh my, the only extrovert O-O That must be hard!

I’m so glad you enjoyed itttt ^-^

(aHHH yes!!! Of course!! I’d love to read it!! :D)

I’m so glad you liked my gifs 😀

EXACTLY. And yeeeaaaahh… It’s a little weird. XD But I’m considered the party in a box, so there’s always that! 😂

Eep! Thank you so much!!! I’m not sure when it’ll be, but I hope I’ll be able to write something about it soon! XD

        THEY WERE PERFECTION!
